Technical Assistant (Encino, CA)

POSITION DESCRIPTION:

The Technical Assistant aids their team of Underwriters with clerical and administrative support on a wide variety of tasks.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Set up and maintain client and policy data in computer system and electronic file system within established guidelines
  • Provide a high level of support to multiple underwriters
  • Maintain direct and constant communication with Underwriters
  • Acquire appropriate approval on work product, as required
  • Track and follow up on tasks forwarded to other staff to ensure timely completion and within set turnaround time benchmarks including renewals, BBNI, and quote follow-ups
  • Act as a liaison between underwriters and clients (brokers) by requesting or delivering correspondence, documents, policies and information on behalf of underwriters with a high level of professionalism
  • Complete quotes and binders where required
  • Update and maintain department underwriting production and renewal trackers (Excel)
  • Work with clients, Policy Services and Accounting to complete policy issuance in a timely manner
  • Train new hires on procedures and systems as needed
  • Assist with projects as needed

QA Lead (Encino, CA)

POSITION DESCRIPTION:
 

The Quality Assurance (QA) Lead will lead the team responsible for our manual and automated testing efforts at NAS Insurance Services. You will be working hands-on with our engineering and product management teams to ensure that the feature development and enhancements to our applications meet high quality standards from a business & functional perspective. To be effective in this role you will need an extensive QA background (both manual and automated preferred), and leadership experience, an understanding of QA best practices, and a desire to collaborate across teams and products. This is a great opportunity for the right leader to make their mark and set the direction for how we handle QA.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:             
 

  • Act as a player coach, managing and coordinating the work of a team of QA professionals, with both functional and automated testing backgrounds.
  • Be the voice for quality, and ensure our products and deliverables are thoroughly tested before release
  • Collaborate with Technical Managers and Team Leads throughout the organization to understand their projects and their needs.
  • Establish an efficient feedback loop between the QA team and our development teams to ensure our QA staff is effectively utilized while meeting the expectations of the delivery team.
  • Grow our testing automation strategy and work with other leaders across the company to establish best practices.
  • Advocate for ongoing release process improvements with our Technical Managers and DevOps
  • Create, review and approve test plans including scope, test methodology and test case identification
  • Provide ongoing metrics around testing and quality
  • Develop and maintain an in-depth working knowledge of the business side of NAS
  • Continually evaluate emerging technologies to identify opportunities, trends and best practices that can be used to strengthen our technology platform and QA practices.

 
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
 

  • 5+ years of Quality Assurance experience in a fast-paced online environment
  • 2+ years of experience as a QA Lead, with a minimum of 2 direct reports preferred
  • BS in Computer Science, related degrees, or equivalent experience
  • Extremely attentive to details, analytical, and process oriented.
  • Advanced experience with testing automation architectures and tools such as TestNG, Selenium, JMeter and QTP
  • Experience with CI tools such as Jenkins or Bamboo Deep, understanding of Agile and SDLC, and how Quality Assurance processes fit in
  • Experience with relational databases, SQL and the ability to do some data QA and analysis is a plus
  • Experience with several of the following a big plus: Python, PHP, Javascript, SQL, Jira, PyCharm, PyTest, Git/BitBucket, SoapUI, and HTML/CSS
  • A solid understanding of website infrastructure - e.g., you know what caching is.
  • Excellent with cross-functional communication & influencing skills

Reinsurance Account Executive (Encino, CA)

POSITION DESCRIPTION:  

The Reinsurance Account Executive manages all aspects of our client relationship. This position will continuously partner with other leaders within the organization to ensure the client’s needs are met. This includes skills in underwriting and marketing as well as project management.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Accountable for an assigned group of clients in the reinsurance portfolio including very important and complex relationships. Each client has their own unique profile and product line.
  • Responsible for communicating and coordinating with Accounting, Claims, Reinsurance Support, Marketing, I.T., Underwriting, and Compliance to ensure program delivery, communication and challenge resolution.
  • Responsible for all client service aspects as well as implementation, renewal, quality and compliance program adherence.
  • Travel and meet with client offices as needed to support the Reinsurance team
  • Develop and renew programs to maintain and maximize market share potential within scope of contract.
  • Review sales activity and recommend improvement on programs as required.

Claims Manager (Encino, CA)

POSITION DESCRIPTION:

Claims Manager analyzes coverage for complex claims submitted under the applicable policy form.  The duties of a Claims Manager include discussing claim facts and coverage issues with insureds, defense counsel and/or coverage counsel, and reinsured clients, particularly on more complex matters. Duties also include managing reinsurance programs; this entails training and supervising of claims examiners.  Claims Manager must possess critical thinking and strong oral/written communication skills.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Takes responsibility for training and supervising of Claim Examiners as needed
  • Performs file audits and employee performance reviews and makes recommendations
  • Reviewing submitted claims for coverage, and making a determination as to whether a matter is covered under the applicable policy.
  • Independently investigating complex claims and coverage issues.
  • Independently review examiners’ action plans, including coverage recommendations, and verify appropriate action is taken.
  • Establishing and revising claim reserves based on claim developments and counsel liability assessments.
  • Issuing coverage determination letters, including reservation of rights and denial letters.
  • Appointing and liaising with defense and/or coverage counsel, as appropriate.
  • Obtaining updates from defense counsel and/or coverage counsel and/or the Insured, as appropriate.
  • Authorizing settlements based on liability and other considerations within settlement authority provided by Underwriters or reinsured client.
  • Conduct detailed bill reviews to ensure appropriate payment.
  • Maintaining a claim file by accurately documenting all communications, activity, etc.
  • Communicate with brokers or reinsured clients to obtain information necessary for processing claims.
  • Attending mediations, arbitration, etc. as needed.
  • Managing reinsurance programs.
  • Negotiating claims-handling protocols with reinsured clients and drafting the same based on agreed to terms.
  • Updating senior claims staff and the Reinsurance Team on program developments and reinsured client feedback; advising examiners of same, if appropriate.
  • Attending meetings with reinsured clients.

 

COMPETENCIES:

  • Strong leadership and management skills

Claims Examiner (Encino, CA)

POSITION DESCRIPTION:

NAS is currently looking for a dynamic Claims Examiner to handle liability and reinsurance claims. The position does not involve medical billing or health insurance. The ideal candidate will be enthusiastic, analytical, customer-service oriented and have excellent communication skills.  This position will be fast-paced, challenging and diverse with hands on instruction. 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Work with other Claims Examiners in evaluating claims on various specialty insurance products, including cyber liability, and errors and omissions policies.
  • Make decisions about whether to approve or deny claims based on applicable coverage and facts gathered in the course of the coverage investigation.  
  • Work closely with company management and various internal staff, clients, clients’ attorneys, and other external customers to gather information and follow up.
  • Job duties include writing multi-page letters to clients and attorneys. Candidate must have the ability to write business letters as well as communicate in a professional manner.
  • Job functions include analyzing information, formulating conclusions and making sound decisions.

SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS:

Senior Underwriter (Professional Lines)

POSITION DESCRIPTION:

The ideal candidate for this position is one that has experience underwriting professional insurance lines - Professional Liability and/or Cyber Liability are preferable, but candidate’s experience in Management Liability, Employment Practices, or Medical Malpractice will be seriously considered.  Experience transacting surplus lines business with various insurance brokers in a fast paced production environment is also ideal.  This position has clear and distinct accountability for business results, and will be responsible for marketing Company products and services and developing and maintaining significant agency or broker relationships. This position will also have management responsibilities, and will be involved in developing entry level underwriting employees into proficient underwriters.
